About us
Started by two engineering students who believe effective tutoring starts with genuine care for the learner.
Engineering Excellence is a tutoring company based in Pretoria, South Africa, founded in September 2025 by University of Pretoria engineering students Giduan Coetzer and Eduan du Plessis. It provides one-on-one and small-group tutoring in Mathematics (Grades 6–11), Natural Sciences (Grades 6–9) and Physical Sciences (Grades 10–11), for both CAPS and IEB curricula, in Afrikaans or English. Tutors travel to learners' homes around Hatfield and greater Pretoria, including learners from Hoërskool Menlopark, Pretoria Boys High School, Pretoria High School for Girls and Hoërskool Waterkloof, and online lessons are available anywhere in South Africa. Lessons cost R200 to R300 per hour depending on format, plus a once-off R350 annual registration fee per learner. All tutors are screened on academic performance and hold valid police clearance certificates. Lessons run seven days a week, including exam-preparation and holiday sessions. Contact is via WhatsApp on +27 61 513 3468.
Why Engineering Excellence exists
Engineering Excellence was founded in September 2025 by Giduan Coetzer and Eduan du Plessis, two engineering students at the University of Pretoria. The company was started after they repeatedly heard stories from parents who were unhappy with the impersonal treatment their children received from tutoring companies.
So we do the opposite: each learner is matched with a suitable tutor based on their subject, grade, preferred language, location, learning needs, and availability. We aim to build understanding, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning. Lessons are adapted to the learner instead of forcing every learner through the same programme.
What parents can expect
- Personal tutor matching
- Lessons adapted to the learner's needs
- Individual attention

- Feedback after lessons

Around 20 screened tutors
Most of our tutors are university engineering students, graduates, or subject specialists with strong academic backgrounds, many of them from the University of Pretoria. Every tutor must have completed at least one university semester involving the subject they teach, and we also consider school results, university academic records, subject knowledge, communication skills, and previous tutoring experience.

Individual tutor profiles will be added once tutors have given written permission for their names, photographs, qualifications, and biographies to be published.
Progress you can see
We track learner progress and give parents feedback. Our goal is not only better marks. We also build understanding, confidence, study habits, and independent problem-solving. One learner improved by 25 percentage points within two weeks of focused support. That is an individual example: results differ between learners and depend on attendance, effort, lesson frequency, existing knowledge, and participation.
